I hope Ben doesn't mind me forwarding this info, but I asked for an update via email on Monday and this is what I received:

We have been busy casting all the smaller parts and the plastic is working great so far. No surprises yet. Thank god. We will update the Facebook page soon with some pictures! We will be doing the bigger parts as an assembly in the coming week or two. As soon as we can really.

Sounds promising.

Just a quick update guys. Those who decided to 'opt out' of the project have all been refunded as of today. We are trying to keep everyone happy as we work through this difficult phase. Ben and I are both insanely busy, readying for NYCC (No, the Fortress will not be on display!), but there is light at the end of the tunnel, as well as free time for casting. Progress has been pretty slow this past month (hence the inactivity of the On Deadly Ground facebook page), and we've mostly just been able to cast some of the auxiliary parts, as stated above. But we are eager to get a head of steam on this thing, and facebook will be the place to find updates when we are rolling for real.

i would HOPE folks would not drop out due to the matty castle... that was always a possibility, and should have been considered before jumping onboard this project. that said, i personally still MUCH prefer this work of art that the bens are creating to what we'll be getting in the matty one... true, not a playset per se, but i still see some awesomely improved "interactive areas", and also a definitively better display piece (which must be what best suits most of us, right?)
anyway, what i'd really LOVE to see is some kind of status update from either ben... it's been over a month more now, and then it seemed like they were finally prepped to start cranking. anyone have any insight as to the status?

they did a update on FB but no real new news, and i'm with you i just like the look of this better.

but i do hope with the drop outs that the rest of us get the ladder, i really want it lol

Looks like the Facebook page is gone? I opted out long ago due to lack of communication. I suspect that we will have the Matty Castle in hand before this project is anywhere near complete. Its a beautiful piece and a real shame that things didn't go as planned. I would have been thrilled to have this in addition to the Mattel version, but the lack of communication really rubbed me the wrong way.

Ooops.....looks like the facebook page is still up and even has an update from October 18th. For those that opted out on the Fortress and don't want to wait another year for Mattel's, check out http://www.facebook.com/TheCastleOfPower This guy's castle is an almost exact repro of the vintage one....scaled up. He seems to be casting and churning these out pretty quickly.

That's a completely different castle, right? Thanks for bringing it to my attention though! Cool to see the vintage one essentially enlarged. Now I want it, this one, AND the Matty one. I'm going to need a Castle Grayskull room!

I wouldn't expect a response. This project is dead in the water. I know I'm being negative, but being put off for close to two years kind of left a bad taste in my mouth.
