Each of his minions fears Hordak in some way and all of them bow to his every word. Though some have attempted to double-cross him, they have not succeeded. Hordak is recognizable by his grotesque white face, with sharp red eyes, his flat snout-like nose, red vampire-like fangs and pointed bat-like ears. Taking the name Hordak, he raised an army and challenged the Snake Men for rule over the planet. And although he defeated King Hssss, Grayskull, leader of the free people of Eternia succeeded in defeating Hordak's army. As his last desperate attempt to gain the upperhand, Hordak casted the "Spell Of Seperation", which would cause the planet to be split into two, to capture the Starseed. The spell was sent array, when King Grayskull severed Hordak's arm, resulting in the planet to be split in two; the Dark Hemisphere and Light Hemisphere. King Grayskull and Hordak have a final showdown, where Hordak and his Evil Horde are banished to the dimension of Despondos, but also resulted in the death of King Grayskull.

The plan went arrey when, Duncan intervened and prevented them from taking both babies. However, Hordak was successful in kidnapping Princess Adora. Hordak and the Evil Horde were tricked by Keldor into using a dimensional gate to Etheria. Once on the other side, Keldor cast a spell that prevented the Horde from returning.
