Orko's fooling around in Man-At-Arms' laboratory leads to the creation of a chemical demon that Man-At-Arms has to extinguish. Duncan then tells him the cautionary tale of how young Prince Adam discovered Cringer as a child. Many years ago on a nature expedition, Adam found Cringer, hurt and abandoned by his mother, being threatened by a Saber Cat. Adam used a nature caller to scare away the cat and nursed Cringer back to health at the Royal Palace.
Teela and her fellow pages made fun of Adam's cowardly pet, calling him a "real cringer," leading to his name. The Sorceress told Adam that Cringer would be very important to him someday. After becoming He-Man, Adam had to keep out of Cringer's sight during his transformations. That ended during one archeological expedition to the Tikon Jungle, where Man-At-Arms and Melaktha discovered a temple containing "great danger."
Teela and Adam found a crack in the temple door and opened it partially, releasing the Gedge monster. When the Gedge terrorized the band of archeologists, Adam transformed into He-Man, but Cringer accidentally saw it happen. When He-Man inadvertently pointed the sword at Cringer, his pet tiger became the fearsome Battle Cat. They rode into the jungle and caught the attention of the Gedge, and lead it back inside the temple, which Man-At-Arms sealed with explosives. Adam and Cringer end the flashback displaying their great respect for one another.
